Hi I'm Claire — owner, designer, creator. I have a love for music, wine, and interior design.

I created Butterflies and Hurricanes in 2005 after I lost my job, and honestly, it was way more fun than any "real job" ever was. Over the years, it's ebbed and flowed as the sensible stuff took turns being the breadwinner.

The Crafty Duo! My mum was part of it too. She got to shine as the creative superstar, free from the business side of things. We had a blast—Christmas craft fairs, dodgy hotel rooms, Strictly on the telly, and plenty of wine!

I started this business because I was completely over the same boring, mass-produced rubbish everywhere—from high streets to supermarkets. Women’s accessories had become cheap, soulless, and disposable, churned out for pennies and sold like groceries. Nothing felt special anymore—no heirlooms, no cherished brooches passed down from granny, just a fast track to landfill. Yawn.

I wanted something different. Something with soul. Unusual, sassy, sparkly, magical—pieces that felt like a little dream, a little joy. Something worth keeping, worth passing on, giving it a longer life. Maybe it was already vintage, maybe it had history, or maybe it just needed a little love to be reborn—re-loved, repurposed, and made wonderful again.

I adore vintage pieces—the stories they carry, the lives they've lived, and the care in their craftsmanship. Giving them a second life is not only kinder to the planet but also a reminder that things were once made to last.
